Danny Rohl has been Sheffield Wednesday manager for 13 months now. But how many more months he oversees in S6 remains to be seen.
During the summer, Championship rivals Hull City and Sunderland were linked with Danny Rohl following his and Sheffield Wednesday’s great escape.
Instead, Rohl signed a new contract at Sheffield Wednesday and committed his future to Hillsborough for another three years.
Speaking on Tuesday, though, BBC pundit Rob Staton said Rohl would be a ‘great fit’ for Leicester City after the Foxes sacked Steve Cooper.
There’s no official link as of yet. But it’ll be a worry for Dejphon Chansiri nonetheless, as might be any vacant job near the foot of the Premier League table or in the Championship.
Here we look at five out-of-work managers who the Owls could target should Rohl be snapped up by Leicester City…
Steve Cooper
Perhaps the most obvious, immediate shout is Cooper, who lasted just five months at Leicester City.
The Welshman is famed for his work at Championship level having guided Swansea City to successive top-six finishes before taking the Nottingham Forest job in 2021.
He later steered the Reds to promotion to the Premier League and established them in the top flight, setting them up for their current success under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Alex Neil
Another experienced former Championship boss is Alex Neil who has had spells in charge of Norwich City, Preston North End, Sunderland, and Stoke City.
The Scot was last at Stoke City where he was axed in December 2023 with a record of 22 wins in 66 Championship outings.
He has promotion from League One with Sunderland on his CV as well as Championship promotion with Norwich in 2015.
Tony Mowbray
Tony Mowbray is another experienced Championship boss, and the one who actually replaced Neil at Sunderland in 2022.
Mowbray is recovering from bowel cancer right now but is eyeing an eventual return to the dugout.
He’d no doubt have suitors given his record: Mowbray achieved an unlikely top six finish with Sunderland in the 2022/23 season, having won EFL promotions with the likes of West Brom and Blackburn Rovers in the past.
Mark Robins
A name who needs no introduction is Mark Robins. The long-standing former Coventry City boss was sacked earlier in November, much to the detest of fans.
The former Manchester United striker is famed for taking Coventry from League Two to the Championship play-off final in the space of seven years.
His Coventry side were always a tough team to play, as Wednesday found out on four occasions last season, and he’s recently proven himself in the Championship too.
Steven Schumacher
Steven Schumacher is another name who lost his Championship job this season, and another who was sacked by Stoke City.
His Potters exit seemed very harsh. Schumacher had 13 wins from 32 games in charge (40.63%), previously stabilising Plymouth Argyle in the second tier after guiding them to promotion from League One.
The former Bradford City and Bury player boasted a very attractive and exciting style of play whilst at Plymouth, and could potentially take over a likewise Sheffield Wednesday side with ease.
