For Sheffield Wednesday, the start of this new season hasn’t quite gone to plan.
Sheffield Wednesday find themselves in 20th place of the Championship table after the opening four games of the season; exactly where they finished in the Championship last time round.
Danny Rohl’s side got off to an emphatic start to the 2024/25 season with a 4-0 win vs Plymouth Argyle, which was followed up by an unexpected, but deserved, 4-0 defeat at Sunderland.
Defeats vs Leeds United and Hillsborough have followed. The international break comes at a good time for the Owls who return to action vs QPR in less then two week’s time now.
Another run of five Championship fixtures will see Sheffield Wednesday into the October international break which is a hot spot for managerial changes. And if nothing changes for Rohl at Hillsborough, owner Dejphon Chansiri may have a tough call to make.

Dejphon Chansiri has made a clear point at Sheffield Wednesday
After Rohl’s heroic last season, Chansiri had no option but to back him during this summer’s transfer window.
Rohl signed a new contract and was given 11 new players in total, with the vast majority of them arriving early on, allowing Rohl ample time to work with his new first-team squad.
Chansiri then has made it clear that he backs Rohl. But at the same time, Chansiri can be ruthless, and he’ll want to see some reward for all his input this summer; not only in the long-term but in the short too.

Of the seven Sheffield Wednesday managers during Chansiri’s reign (not including Rohl), five of them have left or been sacked in October, November, or December.
This stretch between now and Christmas is a hot spot for managerial sackings at Hillsborough, and given this poor start to the season, Rohl may be in troubled waters.
But Chansiri knows, or at least believes, that he has a gem in Rohl. Chansiri wouldn’t have backed Rohl as much as he did this summer if he didn’t think that Rohl was an asset for the club.
Right now though, it’s hard to find praises of the team, and of Rohl too. The performance vs Millwall was another dire one and the buck ultimately stops with Rohl.
Expect him to have more time than many of his predecessors, given last season’s great escape. But if Sheffield Wednesday get to the next international break and the mood is still the same, the tide could quickly turn for Rohl.
Sticking or twisting would be Chansiri’s toughest decision at Sheffield Wednesday yet.
