Danny Rohl must turn to Sheffield Wednesday gem amid transfer uncertainty over ‘unbelievable’ starlet

One Sheffield Wednesday academy product could be in line for a promotion in light of recent transfer news.

Sheffield Wednesday’s 2024/25 Championship campaign has taken a brilliant turn recently, with them losing just one of their previous five games, putting them in 12th in the league.

Sitting just five points away from the play-off spots, Danny Rohl’s side will be hoping that the upcoming game against 18th placed Preston North End can act as a springboard for them to propel further towards the top six.

Of course with the record that the Owls currently find themselves on, their top players are likely to drum up some interest, however one that has come as quite a surprise is the links for Pierce Charles to a Premier League side.

Whilst no concrete bids have been made for the Northern Irish international youngster, Rohl may have to prepare for the event in which his back-up goalkeeper leaves, to which he may have to turn towards one academy product.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl could turn towards Jack Hall in place of Pierce Charles

With the uncertainty over Charles’ future at the club looming, who has been ‘unbelievable’ when called upon by Rohl, the Sheffield Wednesday boss may have to decide to turn to academy goalkeeper Jack Hall as the future Owls No2.

The 20-year-old Worksop-born goalkeeper is yet to notch a single first-team appearance, but is clearly in contention for a future first-team spot having been named on the bench for the 5-1 EFL Cup win against Grimsby Town earlier this season.

Hall has notably notched an England U18 appearance in-between the sticks earlier on in his youth career.

Interest in Pierce Charles could disrupt important Sheffield Wednesday future plans

Whilst it is great to see that Sheffield Wednesday have a catalogue of top goalkeepers waiting in the academy set-up raring to step in, the qualities that Charles has shown across the previous two seasons in his limited opportunities have proven that he has an incredible potential.

Adding that he has international experience at such a young age with Northern Ireland only further bolsters his price tag and the levels that he could easily reach in his career, something that could easily propel Sheffield Wednesday as a club if they held onto the shot-stopper.

The Owls must do everything in their power to keep hold of Charles, at least for the next year or two, as life without James Beadle could look very bleak if the Northern Irish international isn’t available to succeed him.
