Sheffield Wednesday could raid Leeds United for a new signing in the summer, with Ian Poveda a target.
Sheffield Wednesday signed Poveda on loan from Leeds United on deadline day, and since, the Colombian international has been strutting his stuff.
In seven Championship outings for the Owls, Poveda has become a huge fan favourite, showing his trickery and magic in the final third.
It’s said that Danny Rohl wants Poveda on a permanent deal this summer, with his Leeds contract set to expire.
And more recently, it’s been revealed that Leeds United will release Poveda in the summer, potentially opening the door for the Owls to swoop in for the 24-year-old.
Sheffield Wednesday should plot multiple player raid at Leeds United
Poveda would be a huge addition to the Sheffield Wednesday ranks this summer.
Forgetting the amount of players that the Owls have out of contract, and in the midfield department especially, Poveda brings an extra bit of spark and x-factor to the side, which simply wasn’t there before.
But Poveda isn’t the only Leeds United player out of contract this summer; there’s a few more, and one who could be of interest to the Owls is Liam Cooper, who was previously described as a ‘fantastic’ player by ex-Leeds boss Jesse Marsch.

Cooper, 32, joined Leeds United way back in the 2014/15 season, having since racked up 282 total appearances for the Whites, with Premier League promotion on his CV too.
He’s been a very loyal and trustworthy servant to the club. Though his game time has reduced over the past couple of seasons, with the Scot having played just 14 times in the Championship this season.
He’s since been tipped to leave Leeds United in the summer and there’ll no doubt be plenty of Championship clubs on red alert.
And Sheffield Wednesday should be one of them.
Their back-line lacks experience right now. Di’Shon Bernard has impressed this season but he’s out of contract in the summer, though Rohl wants to keep him, whilst Bambo Diaby has failed to impress.
As things stand, Rohl has the impressive Michael Ihiekwe under contract for next season, along with Akin Famewo who has been hit and miss, and Diaby, with Dominic Iorfa another who’s out of contract.
So Rohl will need central defenders this summer, especially if he persists with a back-five.
And Cooper with his experience would be a huge addition to the XI; over the years at Leeds, he’s become a very solid ball-player at the back, with his time under Marcelo Bielsa helping to make him a more contemporary defender, though he retains that old school, no-nonsense way about him.
And being based in Yorkshire, a free transfer to Sheffield Wednesday could suit Cooper, though it of course remains to be seen what he opts for this summer.
