Sheffield Wednesday are expected to announce a loan signing before 11pm.

Sheffield Wednesday started their January window off pretty quickly and looked set for a lot of action as they welcomed James Beadle and Ike Ugbo to the club. However, things have since gone quiet.

Danny Rohl’s tried desperately to lure Orlando City’s Duncan McGuire to Hillsborough this week, but after a nervy transfer saga, they missed out on the striker to Blackburn Rovers.

The club looked set for a disappointing deadline day, but they have been handed one positive as they close in on their first signing since Ugbo’s arrival three weeks ago.

It was reported earlier today that Sheffield Wednesday were interested in signing Ian Poveda, and it wasn’t long before he was on his way to Sheffield as the deal began to move at a rapid pace.

The Star journalist Alex Miller has now claimed that he is ‘expecting’ the club to announce Poveda’s arrival tonight, while he has also reported that the switch will be on loan rather than a permanent one.

Another loan for the Owls…

Another loan deal is incredibly frustrating for Sheffield Wednesday, who have already completed seven loans since the summer.

The Owls haven’t paid only £50,000 for Akin Famewo in 2022 since their transfer embargo was lifted almost three years ago.

While it does mean signing Ian Poveda is risk-free and can return to Leeds United if he can’t impress, it does show a lack of ambition and raises the question as to where the money they were prepared to cough up for Duncan McGuire is going.

Or perhaps they are still hoping to spend that with only two hours to go until the deadline?
