Sheffield Wednesday have now turned their attention to a winger, after missing out on Duncan McGuire.
Sheffield Wednesday had put all their effort into signing Orlando City striker Duncan McGuire in recent days, seeing multiple bids rebuffed for the American.
While they held out some hope today, Fabrizio Romano has now reported that McGuire is on his way to Blackburn Rovers instead.
With that deal seemingly out of the window, The Owls are now eager to add a winger to their ranks instead.
According to The Star journalist Alex Miller, Sheffield Wednesday are now prepared to battle it out for Leeds United’s Ian Poveda.
The report claims it would be a permanent transfer, though they will come up against Birmingham City in their pursuit of the winger.
Tony Mowbray is eager to reunite with Poveda, who managed him during his time at Blackburn Rovers.
Sheffield Wednesday are understood to have been tracking the 23-year-old for ‘several weeks’, with Miller reassuring supporters that it is far from a ‘panic move’.
Who is Ian Poveda?
Ian Poveda has an extremely impressive CV to his name, despite only being 23 years old.
The ‘hungry’ attacker spent time with Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelona and Brentford before joining Manchester City’s academy in 2016.

Poveda only made one senior appearance for Man City before joining Leeds United in 2020.
The winger has struggled to impress for the Whites though, failing to score a single goal in 30 appearances.
Poveda joined Blackburn Rovers on loan for the 2021-22 season and picked up three goal contributions before he was ruled out with an ankle fracture and ligament damage, before going onto score twice in a loan spell with Blackpool the following season.
The Colombia international has struggled to pick up minutes in the Championship this term, making only one start and six substitute appearances so far.
