Sheffield Wednesday are now poised to complete the permanent signing of Ike Ugbo.

Sheffield Wednesday have been trying to re-sign Ike Ugbo all summer, and it looks like they’re finally about to get their man.

Ugbo, 25, joined the Owls on loan from Troyes in January this year, eventually scoring seven goals in 18 Championship outings as Sheffield Wednesday earned a 20th place finish.

Its thought that Ugbo has had interest from a number of teams. Most recently, Sunderland were linked with Ugbo, despite Sheffield Wednesday agreeing a £2.5million fee with French outfit Troyes.

Since, however, it’s been claimed that Sheffield Wednesday are paying £3million for Ugbo.

But where does that leave him in Sheffield Wednesday’s list of all-time record signings, and where does he rank among the most expensive signings of the Dejphon Chansiri era?

Where does Ike Ugbo rank among Sheffield Wednesday’s most expensive signings

Sheffield Wednesday’s record player signing remains Jordan Rhodes, who left Middlesbrough for Hillsborough in February 2017 for a reported fee of over £11million.

The current Blackpool forward scored just 17 goals in 95 appearances for the Owls, costing almost twice the amount that Sheffield Wednesday’s second-most expensive player, Adam Reach, cost.

Reach also signed from Middlesbrough with Sheffield Wednesday paying around £5million for the winger in the summer of August 2016.

Costing slightly less than Reach was Benito Carbone, who is Sheffield Wednesday’s third-most expensive signing of all time.

Names like Fernando Forestieri and Gary Hooper, and Darko Kovacevic and Andy Booth help make up the top 10 most expensive Sheffield Wednesday signings of all time.

Where does Ike Ugbo rank in Dejphon Chansiri’s most expensive Sheffield Wednesday signings

Rhodes and Reach both joined during the Chansiri era at Sheffield Wednesday.

In the past, Chansiri has thrown his share of money at the club, and after several years of cutting back, he’s now putting money into the transfer market once again.

The last time Sheffield Wednesday reportedly paid more than £3million for a player was the signing of Joost Van Aken during the 2017/18 season, who also cost £3million.

Ugbo, should he join Sheffield Wednesday for £3million, would become the joint-seventh most expensive signing of the Chansiri era at Hillsborough.

And for Danny Rohl, it could prove to be the final piece in the puzzle with Sheffield Wednesday having bolstered just about every position well this summer, without signing a new, out and out no.9.

Ugbo will be determined to repay the faith shown in him by Sheffield Wednesday, and score some goals as the Owls look to push towards the top-end of the Championship table next season.
