The Sheffield Wednesday team has undergone some quite drastic changes this summer.
Danny Rohl has rung the changes at Sheffield Wednesday during this summer’s transfer window.
He’s brought in nine new players and that could soon be 10 with Sheffield Wednesday tipped to sign Ike Ugbo despite interest from Sunderland.
Sheffield Wednesday had an inflated and ageing first-team squad last season, but Rohl has addressed both the size and the age, with the average age now 26.7 years from what was over 27 last season.
The summer started with the release of several players as well as several loan deals expiring.
Here we look at what’s happened to the 16 player who’ve left Sheffield Wednesday this summer…
Will Vaulks
Will Vaulks was offered a new Sheffield Wednesday contract this summer, but chose to leave Hillsborough and join the Owls’ new Championship rival Oxford United instead.
Juan Delgado
Juan Delgado was brought in last summer. But injury meant that he played just 10 times in the Championship, scoring once.
He’s since signed for Chilean side Everton where he’s already featured in their league campaign.

Cameron Dawson
Like Vaulks, Cameron Dawson was offered a new contract at the end of last season.
But Dawson left in pursuit of first-team opportunities elsewhere, eventually joining Rotherham United on a free transfer.
Tyreeq Bakinson
Tyreeq Bakinson couldn’t break into the Wednesday team under Rohl and was let out on loan during the second half of last season, before being released.
He’s since signed for League One Wycombe Wanderers.
George Byers
George Byers‘ release this summer was widely talked about, with many fans thinking Sheffield Wednesday should’ve kept Byers.
And his latest move has also garnered a lot of attention with Byers dropping all the way down to League Two to reunite with former Owls boss Darren Moore at Port Vale.
Reece James
Reece James is another who wasn’t favoured by Rohl, and another who’s joined Rotherham United this summer.
Lee Gregory
Lee Gregory was released this summer after failing to make an impact last season, joining Mansfield Town earlier on in the summer.
Ciaran Brennan
Owls academy man Ciaran Brennan left this summer after several years of trying and failing to break into the first-team.
He’s now signed for Newport County.
James Beadle
James Beadle joined on loan from Brighton during the January transfer window, and the impressive shot-stopper has since returned on a season-long loan.
Ike Ugbo
Ike Ugbo was another loan man who impressed at Sheffield Wednesday during the second half of last season, and he’s now poised to return as well.
Momo Diaby
Powerful midfielder Momo Diaby joined on loan from Portimonense last summer and looked good on his debut, which was cut short due to injury.
H couldn’t make the same impact on his return and is now back with Portimonense.
Ashley Fletcher
Ashley Fletcher reunited with former Watford boss Xisco Munoz at Wednesday last summer, but failed to score in 23 Championship outings for the Owls.
He’s since joined Blackpool on a free transfer.
Jeff Hendrick
Jeff Hendrick was another who joined last summer, and another who failed to make an impact.
He remains a free agent after being let go by Newcastle United this summer, but Wednesday fans will remember his late equaliser against Leicester City last year.
Ian Poveda
Sheffield Wednesday wanted to re-sign Ian Poveda following his impressive loan spell in the second half of last season, and following his release by Leeds United.
Poveda though has since signed for Sunderland on a permanent deal, landing a three-year contract.
Kristian Pedersen
Kristian Pedersen was the fourth and final name to join Sheffield Wednesday on loan last January.
But he’s the only one who didn’t impress, featuring just four times and having since returned to parent club Swansea City.
