Another Sheffield Wednesday star has opened up on their future as they approach the end of their contract this summer.
Sheffield Wednesday face losing a long list of players at the end of the season, with eleven contracts set to expire, alongside a further six loan spells scheduled to end.
Danny Rohl has already made it clear that he wants his team to focus on keeping the Owls in the Championship before serious discussions begin about their futures at the club, though the likes of Barry Bannan and Will Vaulks have admitted that they would like to remain at Hillsborough.
While the former is expected to put pen to paper on a new deal even if the club are relegated to League One, many player’s situation is likely to depend on that.
Sheffield Wednesday have a number of players very capable of playing in the Championship and could well be snapped up if they do drop down to the third tier.
Dominic Iorfa has spent the last five years with Wednesday and has been very impressive for the Owls this season, though he is another star who faces uncertainty this summer.
However, the 28-year-old has provided supporters with good news on his end, claiming that he is ‘settled’ and ‘happy’ at Hillsborough.
“I’ve been out so I’ve just been focusing on getting back fit,” he told The Star.
“And I imagine that over the next few months then some conversations will take place. The window is shut now, so hopefully it’s something that we’ll get sorted out – but yeah, my focus has just been on getting back fit so I can get back to form, back to my best, and just help the team stay up.
“I’m very settled here, I’ve been here a long time. So I know the club well, know the fanbase, so if it happens then I’d be happy to stay. But we’ll see. I’m back now, and my focus is getting back into the team, performing well, and then we’ll go from there.”
Sheffield Wednesday players really love playing for Rohl
It says a lot about Danny Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday that out-of-contract players are already coming out and saying they want to stay.
The Owls have a very good chance at dropping down to League One in the summer, and in many instances, players would jump at the chance at returning to the Championship on a free transfer.
However, the atmosphere at the club is very clear, and while it has been a tough season, these players are really enjoying playing under Rohl.
If Sheffield Wednesday can get these stars to sign new contracts and also keep Rohl, then their future will look bright no matter which league they are in.
