One Sheffield Wednesday star has admitted that he wants to spend the rest of his career at Hillsborough.
After back-to-back seasons that saw Sheffield Wednesday reach the Championship play-offs, things very quickly went downhill for the club, who won promotion back to the second tier at the second time of asking last year.
Despite a fall from grace for The Owls, Barry Bannan has remained one player who has stuck through it.
The midfielder arrived just in time for those two play-off campaigns and has remained a fan favourite ever-since.
Bannan is closing in on 400 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday – netting 30 goals and providing 63 assists. The veteran was particularly impressive in League One as he claimed 16 goals and 25 assists in only 91 games.
The 34-year-old has three PFA Team of the Year awards to his name, as well as two EFL League One Team of the Season, EFL Goal of the Season, Sheffield Wednesday Player of the Year and SWFC Community Player of the Year.
His contract is now set to expire in the summer though, and like many others, his future remains unclear.
While Danny Rohl is yet to discuss new contracts due to his commitment to the Championship campaign, Bannan has made it very clear that he wants to stay at Hillsborough.
Speaking to The Star’s Joe Crann, Bannan said: “I’m just enjoying my football. Contracts are contracts – I’ve been in football long enough. If i get offered one, amazing because I would love to stay here. If I don’t, I’m sure I’ll find somewhere else. It’s football, you move on.
“I don’t think much into it, but I’ve obviously made it well known that I want to stay here for the rest of my career and hopefully I can perform and win a contract. But for me, I’m just enjoying my football and if I get offered a contract then it would be amazing. I’m settled here, I’ve been here a long time, I love it here.”

It will be music to everyone’s eyes that Barry Bannan wants nothing more than to stay at Sheffield Wednesday.
Whether it be in the Championship or League One, the midfielder is really important to the squad and is undoubtedly a great leader to the younger ones too.
After everything he has done, there is surely no doubt that he will be offered a new deal and will see out his career in Yorkshire. It wouldn’t surprise anyone if he went onto join the coaching staff shortly after either.
