Sheffield Wednesday are now set to offer a new contract to one of their key players.
Sheffield Wednesday have their full focus on staying in the Championship this season, however the club need to also have one eye on extending the deals of numerous out-of-contract stars.
The Owls will see nine players’ contracts expire in the summer, while a further seven could return to their parent clubs following the conclusion of their loan spells.
The 4-0 hammering by Huddersfield Town at the weekend has plunged the club’s future in the second tier into further doubt, but Danny Rohl remains eager to tie down some of his key players no matter which league they end up in.
According to The Star, Josh Windass is one favourite who is set for fresh contract talks in the coming weeks.
The 30-year-old has spent the last four years at Hillsborough and has maintained his importance to the team since scoring the all-important goal in the League One play-off final last year.
Windass has netted three goals and provided two assists this term, while he has been a regular under Rohl as of late.
The attacking midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away though, with MLS club Real Salt Lake and Argentine outfit Atletico Talleres being two clubs that were said to be interested in signing him in January.

Josh Windass’ previous comments have suggested that he is happy at Sheffield Wednesday, but it is always going to be difficult for the club to persuade players to extend their contracts when they sit eight points from safety.
Keeping Windass is very important for The Owls though and he could be vital no matter what league the club find themselves in later this year.
A move to the MLS or Argentina surely isn’t that tempting for the ‘game-changer’, though potential interest from the Championship could cause a hiccup in Danny Rohl’s plans.
The promise of continuing to work under the German coach could be key though, with Windass previously admitting that Rohl was one of the best managers he has ever worked with.
