Danny Rohl has tipped Josh Windass to make a real impact for Sheffield Wednesday this season.
Speaking to Yorkshire Live, the Owls boss claimed that Windass could be a ‘game-changer’ when fully fit.
Josh Windass has been a key player for Sheffield Wednesday since joining the club in 2020 and netted 12 goals last season as they were promoted from League One before earning himself a extension to his £15-per-week contract.
The forward also claimed 14 goal contributions in their previous season in the Championship, however he is yet to get off the mark this time round.
Windass has struggled with injury so far this season and has managed only nine starts, however Danny Rohl is very confident that he can be the main man once he returns to the starting line-up.
“When we look at the whole picture, he started back training on Thursday. He missed a training session during the week but I think he can be the game-changer,” Rohl said.
“He can create things and that is what we need to happen. That was the reason I put him on the bench and I’m very happy that he’s now ready to go.”
How important is Josh Windass?
Sheffield Wednesday have only managed to score seven goals in the Championship this season, while they have failed to score a single goal in any game that Josh Windass didn’t start in.
While the 29-year-old hasn’t netted since the League One play-off final against Barnsley, he has clearly had a positive impact on the Owls’ attack during a tough start to the campaign.
With Windass coming on from the bench against Millwall, we could certainly see him handed a start against Birmingham City after the international break.
Wayne Rooney is yet to pick up a win since being appointed Blues manager and Sheffield Wednesday should take advantage of the discontent surrounding the club right now.
