Why Josh Windass was missing from Sheffield Wednesday squad against Bristol City

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has explained why Josh Windass was absent in the 1-0 defeat away at Bristol City on Saturday afternoon.

Windass was omitted from the squad despite being a key player for Rohl so far, with Djeidi Gassama taking his place in the starting eleven.

Wednesday lost 1-0 after Bristol City centre-back Rob Dickie scored in the 64th minute to give the managerless side a victory after two consecutive losses.

The Owls were not helped by star man Barry Bannan, who received a straight red card in the 32nd minute for the denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star following the match, Rohl confirmed the reason Windass missed the trip to Ashton Gate was due to a muscle injury, but did not go into detail.

“Yesterday he picked up an injury in training, and now we’ll see what happens in the next few days. He’ll have a medical check for him, and then we’ll know more about it.

“We’ll have to look whether he can play against Millwall – maybe yes, maybe no. We have to wait until Monday for his medical check and then we will see.”

Rohl will be hoping to have Windass back as soon as possible

Windass has been a lay player for Rohl in his opening three games in charge.

He was vital in helping Wednesday secure their first win of the season last Sunday when they defeated Yorkshire rivals and fellow strugglers Rotherham United 2-0 at Hillsborough.

Windass has already missed a month of action with injury, missing three games in early October.

Rohl will hope to have Windass back in action when they host Millwall this upcoming Saturday afternoon.
