Josh Windass hails ‘unbelievable’ Sheffield Wednesday man amid uncertain future

Josh Windass has agreed with Barry Bannan’s recent claims on their ‘unbelievable’ Sheffield Wednesday head coach.

Danny Rohl has been the subject of plenty of praise since he arrived at Sheffield Wednesday in October.

It has been an inconsistent three months for the German, but The Owls have managed to pick up seven wins in 16 games in all competitions and look much more capable of avoiding relegation than they did under Xisco Munoz.

Rohl has quickly become a favourite at Hillsborough and it is not just the fans that seem to love him.

After spending almost nine years with Sheffield Wednesday, Barry Bannan admitted in November that Rohl was the ‘best manager’ he has ever had in his football career.

“We have got a top manager involved now, and it’s difficult to describe it but I would say he is probably the best manager I have had in my whole football career,” Bannan said.

“We need to trust in him to get us out of this because I think he is destined for the top.”

Sheffield Wednesday have only looked better since Bannan’s comments, and Josh Windass has now reiterated his praise.

Speaking to The Star ahead of the defeat to Coventry City, Windass said: “He’s not really spoken to me individually that much, but the way he sees football and coaches football is the way I see it.

“He’s the best coach I’ve ever had by far and the way he sees football and explains it with Henrik and the staff, I think they’re unbelievable to be honest at what they do.

“I said when he first got the job, if it’s good enough for Thomas Muller, then it’s good enough for us! He shows us clips of Bayern Munich now, they’re a far better team but the ideas and stuff is the same. He’s taught us a lot and it’s all stuff that’s right. It’s nice to have someone come in who shares your belief in how football should be played.”

Will Josh Windass stay or leave?

Josh Windass‘ praise for Danny Rohl comes shortly after reports linking him with a move away for Sheffield Wednesday.

MLS outfit Real Salt Lake are one club who are said to be interested in snapping Windass up when his contract expires in the summer.

The Owls will surely want to keep him around though, with the 30-year-old picking up four goals and an assist in his last seven games for the side.

Windass’ latest comments on Rohl are surely an encouraging sign though, with his admiration for the 34-year-old manager potentially persuading him to stay at Hillsborough for a further year.

If Rohl wants to keep the attacker then we could hopefully see him as the next player to put pen to paper on a new deal, with a further nine players out of contract in the summer.
