Barry Bannan has tipped Sheffield Wednesday’s key man to reach the very top.

Speaking on the club’s official site, the midfielder declared Danny Rohl as the ‘best manager’ he has ever had.

Barry Bannan has enjoyed a long, illustrious career and has won two promotions with Sheffield Wednesday and Blackpool, while he has worked under some big names such as Gerard Houllier, Neil Warnock and Gordon Strachan.

He has also worked under eight managers since joining the Owls in 2015, with Carlos Carvalhal welcoming him to Hillsborough in his first summer in charge.

Despite working closely with very experienced coaches with wealthy CVs, Bannan claims he is yet to work with a manager quite as good as Danny Rohl.

The German is only 34 years old and had never taken charge of a senior club before, but he has already got right under Bannan’s skin.

“This club will never wave any flags, we know that more than most after what we achieved last season. If we’re being written off now then that’s not right,” Bannan said.

“We have got a top manager involved now, and it’s difficult to describe it but I would say he is probably the best manager I have had in my whole football career. We need to trust in him to get us out of this because I think he is destined for the top.

“I have sometimes found myself in team meetings thinking; ‘wow’, kind of thing. Or ‘how has he seen that?’ He has shown me things on the tactics board, in meetings and in games that I have never seen any manager do.

“We have the right man in charge and it’s just about sticking with him and I have got no doubt that this club will see better days.”

How exciting is Danny Rohl?

Barry Bannan’s praise of Danny Rohl is something that Sheffield Wednesday fans should take great comfort in.

The midfielder has almost 16 years of senior football under his belt and has enough experience to know what it takes to be a good manager, and for him to be this impressed with Rohl is something special.

It was a big risk taking on such a young man with very little experience, but you only have to look at where he has come from to get excited.

The former defender has been a coach at RB Leipzig, Southampton and Bayern Munich, whilst he has even spent time as the assistant manager of the German national team.

It doesn’t get much better than that, does it? Well, it certainly does for the Owls supporters. Now we just have to be patient and see what magic he can work.
