Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has had an underwhelming time as owner of the club.
Recently the Thai businessman has come under massive criticism after failing to pay the club’s HMRC bill on time, which resulted in him asking 20,000 of the fans to pay £100 each in order to be able to pay off the £2,000,000 bill.
Thankfully he has since paid that bill off himself, but since he took charge of the club in 2015 he has had plenty of fans turn against him after what seemed a promising start to his ownership.
Here we look at three things that Chansiri has actually done right recently at the club.
Danny Rohl
The decision to let go of manager Darren Moore after their promotion to the Championship last season brought a lot of confusion and scepticism, which was not helped by the rogue appointment of Xisco Munoz.
Munoz had a terrible tenure as Wednesday boss before he was sacked in October, after only managing to pick up two points from his opening ten games.
But what Chansiri has done right is bring in Danny Rohl, and along with that an experienced coaching team to help Wednesdays in their fight against relegation, with the likes of former Charlton and Derby manager Chris Powell part of his back room team.
This has so far been a positive appointment, with Wednesday winning their first game this season against Rotherham United under Rohl’s management.
While it is early days, it has so far been a good appointment by Dejphon Chansiri.
Barry Bannan
Barry Bannan has been a star midfielder for Wednesday since his arrival from Crystal Palace in 2015.
The former Scotland international has been a stalwart at the club, and has had plenty of interest over the years.
He has gone on to be a key player for Wednesday, scoring 30 goals in 370 appearances for the club.
But Chansiri has made sure that the Owls have kept on to their best asset, something which Wednesday fans will be thankful for.
Chansiri’s Recruitment
Recruitment is always something that Wednesday have had a bit easier than some rivals.
Despite the financial issues over the years, the size of the club and the fan base has always been something that has been able to attract players.
This summer, Wednesday brought in 12 players as they prepared for their first season back in the second tier after two years away.
Of those signings, ten of them were under the age of 30.
This is somewhat smart, and shows that Wednesday are not bringing older players in that could be considered too old.
They have brought a few young exciting young players, including wingers Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba, both 20 and 22 years old respectively.
Although it’s early days, Wednesday’s recruitment has been somewhat shrewd, and these players could shine in the long term.
