Sheffield Wednesday summer signing Max Lowe has revealed how he spoke to two current Owls players before joining.

Max Lowe is one of nine new players to have arrived at Sheffield Wednesday during this summer’s transfer window so far.

Lowe was actually the Owls’ second signing of the summer, joining shortly after goalkeeper Ben Hamer was announced as the first.

27-year-old left-back Lowe was released by Sheffield United at the end of last season, making the controversial Steely City switch and becoming the first player to play for both Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United since Nathaniel Mendez-Laing in 2021.

Lowe has received mixed reviews on social media from Sheffield United fans following what was a tough four-year spell at Bramall Lane.

Injury prevented Lowe from truly kicking on with the Blades. But Wednesday fans are ready to give him a chance ahead of what could be a very exciting 2024/25 Championship season for the Owls.

Max Lowe reveals Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer conversations before Sheffield Wednesday move

Speaking to The Star recently, Lowe has discussed next season’s Steel City derby; Sheffield Wednesday vs Sheffield United takes place on November 9th at Bramall Lane, then on March 15th at Hillsborough.

Lowe first revealed his hopes to beat Sheffield United next season, then revealing his conversations with Danny Rohl before signing, as well as his conversations with veteran Owls duo Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer.

Lowe said: “I’m not going to lie, at first I knew it would make some noise [move from Sheffield United to Wednesday].

“But once I’d spoken to the senior lads and especially the gaffer, it made my decision really easy.

“It wasn’t one I felt like I couldn’t handle and that’s why I’m here. It’s no secret how big the rivalry is, but the manager made clear what he expects from me, I spoke to Baz and Liam and I knew it was something I could handle.”

Max Lowe can shine for Sheffield Wednesday vs Sheffield United

Whether or not Lowe plays regularly from the off next season remains to be seen; he may be focused on simply being available for most of the season following his injury problems over the past few years.

But Rohl may have reason to start Lowe against Sheffield United, with Lowe having played with many of their players for a long time.

He’ll know what to expect from a Chris Wilder side and from many of the players who he’ll have played with in the past.

Although it would be a tough outing for Lowe, especially in the game at Bramall Lane with United fans bound to give him a hard time, it would be a great chance for him to prove some of his United doubters wrong.
