A Sheffield Wednesday player is waiting for the club to offer him a new deal, which is yet to come.

Sheffield Wednesday look set to tackle expiring contracts much earlier than they did last season.

During the latter weeks of the last campaign, Danny Rohl not only had to steer the Owls towards Championship safety, but he also had to pay attention to the vast number of contracts that were expiring.

Sheffield Wednesday released a number of names including Cameron Dawson, Reece James, Tyreeq Bakinson, and George Byers to name a few, whilst Barry Bannan signed a new Sheffield Wednesday contract, along with the likes of Liam Palmer, Josh Windass, and Dominic Iorfa.

Already this season, it’s been revealed that Sheffield Wednesday want to hand Akin Famewo a new contract following his impressive start to the season.

Elsewhere, Sheffield Wednesday are also in contract talks with Pol Valentin; both he and Famewo see their contracts at Hillsborough expire next summer.

Pol Valentin discusses Sheffield Wednesday future amid transfer interest

Earlier this season, it was revealed that Maccabi Tel Aviv were interested in Valentin, but that the Israeli club had had a transfer approach for the Spaniard knocked back.

Speaking to The Star ahead of the Championship clash against Portsmouth on Friday night, 27-year-old Valentin confirmed recent transfer interest, as well as revealing summer interest.

Valentin said: “There was an offer maybe one month ago and in the summer as well, some teams were asking about my situation.

“Always, I have wanted to be here at the club, we had a conversation after the offer and at the moment we have not spoken more, I am waiting for the club and it is the club that need to make the movement on this, but I am waiting.

“I am focused on the training and the games. I know this will come and if the club wants, they will speak with me.

“There were some Spanish teams (that showed interest), they maybe looked at my performance and saw I played a lot of games.”

Valentin added: “The club said I was important and I feel important as well. I am happy here, I want to be here.

“I played a lot of games already and I want to get to 100, minimum. But it’s the club that need to come.”

What is Pol Valentin’s salary at Sheffield Wednesday?

Per Capology, Valentin is among the lowest-earning first-team players at Sheffield Wednesday, reportedly making £2,000-a-week.

That’s compared to the club’s biggest-earner which is Bannan, who per the same source takes home more than £24,000-a-week.

A new contract for Valentin would surely mean a pay rise for the impressive right wing-back, especially given the fact that he has transfer interest.

But when the Owls approach Valentin with a new offer remains to be seen. Valentin’s made it clear that the ball is in the club’s court.

We could possibly expect contracts for Valentin and Famewo to be wrapped up before the January transfer window, as to avoid possible pre-contract agreement deals.
