Sheffield Wednesday have been handed a big injury boost as one player is set to be available for this weekend’s meeting with Bristol City.
Sheffield Wednesday have struggled with a long list of injuries this season, but their biggest stars appear to now be forming an orderly queue to get back into the team.
It was reported this week that Dominic Iorfa is set to return for the Owls soon, while a further comeback could be enjoyed by Cameron Dawson.
According to The Star, the goalkeeper is back in training and could be available to take his place in between the sticks against Bristol City.
Cameron Dawson has had a rollercoaster of a campaign so far, making only one start in the Championship during Xisco Munoz’s tenure.
Danny Rohl‘s appointment saw him replace Devis Vasquez though and he went onto start the next 18 matches in all competitions. The 28-year-old received particular credit for his role in a 4-0 win over Cardiff City last month, where he saved two penalties.
However, Dawson’s role in the starting line-up was thrown into doubt when James Beadle arrived on loan from Brighton in January. The youngster was then handed an immediate role when his teammate picked up an injury and has spent the last month on the sidelines.
Dawson’s injury has left Beadle to start the league games, while 18-year-old Pierce Charles has featured in the FA Cup due to the former being cup-tied.
While Sheffield Wednesday are no longer in the Cup, we can expect Dawson to take his place back in the match-day squad ahead of Charles, who will return to the U21s.
The report also mentions that Akin Famewo was spotted in training with the first team, though it is yet to be seen whether he will be available for this weekend’s match.
Who will start vs Bristol City?
It’s unclear whether Cameron Dawson will be handed his position back in net this weekend, as James Beadle may well have been brought in to earn his place as the first choice ‘keeper in the first place.
The 19-year-old started against Coventry City last month ahead of Dawson and may well have continued to do so even if the latter hadn’t picked up an injury.
Beadle has kept three clean sheets in his first six starts in the Championship this term, so there is every reason for him to keep his place in the squad.
Danny Rohl will be delighted to have some more squad depth back, while it should provide some healthy competition for both Beadle and Dawson going forward.
The less Dawson plays though, the more likely he is to leave the club when his contract expires in the summer.
