Sheffield Wednesday’s injury list has made things very ‘difficult’ for Danny Rohl

Danny Rohl has explained what he has really struggled with since joining Sheffield Wednesday.

Danny Rohl was given his first job in senior management when he was appointed as Xisco Munoz’s successor in October.

Taking on the 34-year-old was a huge risk for the Owls, though a coaching CV that included RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and the German national team was certainly promising.

It was a slow start for Rohl, but the German has definitely proven himself to Sheffield Wednesday supporters since.

Rohl has picked up eight wins and two draws in 22 games so far – taking the club to within four points of safety.

Fans absolutely love Rohl and he seems to be the best man for the job as they look to avoid relegation, though the head coach has admitted there has been one major problem during his time at Hillsborough.

Speaking to The Star, Rohl said: “When you have so many games, especially with our style and intensity of football, it’s always possible that you’re going to have some injuries.

“All in all we always have 11 players available and this is important, but when you have key players missing it’s obviously not good.

“We work hard though, the medical department is also hard working… You’re always looking for the load, especially when it’s like the last few weeks when you play every three days – it means that there is not so much time for recovery, or for bringing players back.

“Normally if you have an injury for four weeks then you may only have three games out, but for us now it means seven games. So that’s more difficult. It’s what we have to take, and I’ve spoken a lot about the whole squad – we need them all.

“Everybody has to be ready, we did it well over Christmas with our squad. As a manager you want everybody available, but this is sometimes not possible. Now it’s about bringing people back as soon as possible for the rest of the season, and then keep them for the final games.”

Sheffield Wednesday have suffered due to injuries

Sheffield Wednesday currently have Josh Windass, Callum Paterson, Akin Famewo, Juan Delgado and Kristian Pedersen all out, while Bailey Cadamarteri, Ashley Fletcher and Barry Bannan could be unavailable for this weekend’s meeting with Bristol City.

The Owls have been forced to move things around and play players out of position this term, with Liam Palmer playing a number of games in midfield.

The return of Dominic Iorfa will be huge for Sheffield Wednesday, though it is frustrating knowing that the difference the rest of the absentees could have made by now.

Who knows how many important goals Windass could have bagged if he had been available all season…
