Joe Crann has raved about Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Cameron Dawson after last night’s win over Cardiff in the FA Cup.

Crann raves about Wednesday star Cameron Dawson
Well, it was quite the night for Dawson in the Wednesday goal. He saved two penalty kicks inside the first seven minutes as Cardiff twice wasted a chance to level things up.
It’s not the first time Dawson has produced heroics from the penalty spot this season. He saved a penalty against Stoke in December and that allowed the Owls a chance to go and win the game.
This time, he enjoyed a double celebration after saving two penalty kicks. Crann raved about the goalkeeper and felt the two saves he made were a nice moment for him.
He posted on X: “Lovely to see Cam Dawson get such a big ovation as he runs off the pitch tonight…He’s played out of his skin so far, and is the main reason why Sheffield Wednesday are still ahead.”
Dawson has played in every game under Danny Rohl since he arrived at the club. He looks firmly established as the club’s number one and these types of performances will enhance that status.
Dawson learning all the time and he’s an asset
The 28-year-old is Wednesday through and through. In fact, if you cut the goalkeeper open you’d probably find that he bleeds the blue and white of the club he’s supported all of his life.
Despite making 128 appearances for the club where he’s come through the academy, the goalkeeper faces a constant battle to prove himself. Things shouldn’t be like that and he deserves more praise.
Dawson is learning all the time under Wednesday head coach Rohl. Under the German manager, he’s been tasked with playing out from the back more often and clearly, that is something that might take some time.
His goalkeeper is largely decent though and his saves for the Cardiff penalties last night were excellent and showcased that he’d clearly done his homework on the opposition.
Wednesday fans are of course entitled to their opinion. However, Dawson looks set to remain as the number one custodian and he deserves the chance to continue in that role this season.
