Sheffield Wednesday have announced Mockba Modular as their new ‘principle partner’ and front-of-shirt sponsor for this season.
Sheffield Wednesday under Dejphon Chansiri often change shirt sponsor, having now announced their latest in Mockba Modular.
The club announced the news on Friday and Owls fans have had a lot to say about the new shirt design on social media.
Last season, the Owls had two front-of-shirt sponsors in EyUp and then Cirata, with the latter dividing opinion when it came into play during the second part of the season.
Sheffield Wednesday fans react to new shirt sponsor
As ever, these kind of changes make a difference for fans, with many of whom having already bought the 2024/25 shirt at the start of this season, which will now have a different sponsor to the players’ kits.
And the design of this latest sponsor hasn’t gone down well with a lot of fans, with comments ranging from ‘shocking’, ‘so bad’, and ‘spoils the shirt’.
Another fan added ‘hope the cheque was a big one’, with one joking that ‘Whoever is in charge of sponsorships needs sacking’.
Meanwhile, there was some jokes between Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United fans, with the Blades having unveiled a new front-of-shirt sponsor for their Friday defeat against Leeds United, which has also split opinion.
One Owls fan said that Wednesday’s new-look kit is ‘not the worst sponsor I’ve seen this week’.
What has the club said about Mockba Modular?
Speaking to the club, Sheffield Wednesday’s General Manager Alastair Wilson spoke positively about Mockba.
He said: “On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to welcome MOCKBA to Hillsborough.
“Mockba Modular’s logo will be displayed on the front of the players’ shirts home and away, beginning with our game against Burnley on Saturday.
“We are delighted to launch the partnership with such a market-leading construction brand.”
For the Owls, it’s a new stream of income, which can only be a positive for Danny Rohl, Chansiri, and everyone involved in getting the club moving forward, even if a lot of fans don’t like the look of the design.
Sheffield Wednesday against Burnley kicks off at 3pm on Saturday at Hillsborough, where fans will get a first look at the new shirt sponsor.
