Sheffield Wednesday already have 25 points to their name this season. That’s 18 more than they had after 18 games of last season.
Sheffield Wednesday earned a 2-1 win against Derby County on Sunday, coming from behind to pick up their first win at Pride Park since 2006.
Danny Rohl’s side had beaten Hull City in their previous outing, now finding themselves in 12th place of the Championship table and just five points outside the top six.
Away form is proving to be an unlikely source of points this season, especially when going behind in games.
After the win at Derby, Sheffield Wednesday now have the most points from losing positions in the Championship this season, with 10 to their name.
As fans start wondering whether a top six push really is on the cards this season, journalist Dom Howson has given his thoughts on what the ‘immediate focus’ should be.

Sheffield Wednesday told to hit the 50-point mark in the Championship
Rohl certainly won’t be getting carried away when thinking about his side’s possible fortunes in the Championship this season.
He knows full well how tricky the league can get, and also how inconsistent his side can be at times.
And Howson has now weighed in, insisting that the club should first reach the 50-point mark in the Championship, and then look to push on from there.
As things stand, Sheffield Wednesday sit on 25 points in the Championship. The earliest they could reach the 50-point mark is by mid-January, providing they win their next nine league games which is of course unlikely.

How many points were needed to reach the play-offs last season?
Last season, the Owls eventually finished on 52 points. It placed them in 20th whilst Birmingham City were relegated on 50 points.
If Sheffield Wednesday were to finish the season in 12th, where they currently sit now, then last season’s campaign dictates that they’d need a total of 62 points.
Norwich City finished in 6th last season on a total of 73 points. If 73 points is needed for 6th again this season, then the Owls would need to average of 1.72 points-per-game to finish in 6th.
Sheffield Wednesday are back at Hillsborough this weekend where they host Paul Heckingbottom’s Preston, who currently sit 18th in the league.
If a play-off push is on the cards this season then Wednesday certainly need to win this one.
