After seeing his team wrap up a stunning win in the dying moments against Derby County, Danny Rohl has been thinking about how far Sheffield Wednesday have come in the last year.
Hope of a second away win in a week appeared to be fading fast for Sheffield Wednesday at Pride Park on Sunday afternoon as the game ticked into injury time.
Wednesday had been second best in the first half, but with Derby County leading 1-0, Danny Rohl’s side rallied after the break and a ‘phenomenal’ goal from Barry Bannan levelled the scores.
From there, the Owls always looked like getting a goal, and Jamal Lowe’s late finish secured a crucial victory to lift Wednesday back into the top half of the table.

Sheffield Wednesday are more resilient and making their own luck
Speaking to the official Sheffield Wednesday Twitter/X account after the game, Rohl discussed the win and what it taught him about his team in terms of the progress they have made since this time last season.
Rohl said: “This is really the development right now. Compared to last year, we are taking points from away games, and we didn’t use to come back from 1-0 down. It’s not necessary, but it helps.
“We have different games, different challenges in the Championship. Away at Hull, you need different tools to [Derby], and it’s important to know as a team what we have to do.”
Rohl was clearly happy with the three points and the manner of the win, adding: “We can enjoy this win today… Sometimes you deserve a bit of momentum and the luck to get the win.”

Derby County win has to be platform for Sheffield Wednesday to build on
That win lifts Sheffield Wednesday into 12th place, and they are now level on points with ninth-placed Norwich City. To be just five points off the play-off places at this stage of the season certainly bodes well for the Owls.
But, the key thing now is that they need to build momentum and try to put together a strong run heading into the festive period.

Rohl will learn a lot about Sheffield Wednesday from the win against Derby, both positives and negatives, and he will need to carry that into the next few games and beyond.
If Wednesday can beat struggling Preston North End at the weekend, they’ll go into the clash with Blackburn Rovers on the Tuesday in fine form and high on confidence, and we all know what a confident Sheffield Wednesday team is capable of.
That win against Derby certainly feels like a turning point for the season. The character shown was immense, and the fact Wednesday have now recorded back-to-back wins for the first time will lift the squad massively.
