Sheffield Wednesday have not started the season well at all, currently sat bottom of the Championship after eleven games.
Manager Xisco Munoz was sacked on Wednesday night, after only picking up two points from his opening ten games.
Under-21s manager Neil Thompson has come in as caretaker whilst the Owls search for a new manager continues, with the likes of Michael Beale and Danny Röhl being linked with the vacancy.
But the players have taken the blame for their poor start, none more so than centre-back Di’Shon Bernard.
Bernard says players should take blame for poor start
Bernard has been critical of the squad, stating that it has been the players on the pitch that have not been up to speed.
“We know where we are at,” he told Yorkshire Live. “Every game is important and we go into them like it’s our last.
“The last few games it’s been our mistakes that cost us. What we need to be is hard to beat, nice and aggressive and I thought everyone was that (against Huddersfield).
“Results have not been the best. But it’s about us on the pitch, it’s not the manager. We need to take responsibility and accountability for what we produce. I think it was a good point to build on and hopefully we can try and get the win next game.
“It was a nice thing to build on, a clean sheet. We need to be a bit more clinical up front and calmer in possession, but we’re working on it.”
Bernard issues promise to next manager
Bernard said he could not answer when questioned about who he would like in as the new manager, but promised that the squad will give their all to whoever comes in.
“For me I can’t answer it. I’m still young in this game. Whoever comes in, we’ll give our all. I’m excited to see who comes in.”
