Sheffield Wednesday are closing in on managerial target Danny Rohl, reports Alan Nixon.
Sheffield Wednesday only sacked Xisco Munoz a few nights ago, but already it seems like they have their replacement, and it’s an exciting name too.
Rohl was interview for the job in the summer and apparently impressed owner Dejphon Chansiri before he opted for Munoz.
And Rohl is newly out of work having recently left his position as an assistant coach with the German national side, having held similar positions with the likes of Southampton and RB Leipzig, working under the likes of Hansi Flick and Ralph Hasenhuttl.
Now though, Nixon is reporting on his Patreon page that Sheffield Wednesday are closing in on Rohl with the German now having held fresh talks with the club.
TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook also says that former Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City boss Sabri Lamouchi is a person of interest.
Rohl is a German Pro License holder, and in an interview with DW earlier this year, he spoke about what he’s learned in different roles and revealed that he makes ‘bold decisions’ as a coach.
Rohl the right man for Sheffield Wednesday?
Rohl certainly looks like the kind of appointment that Sheffield Wednesday should be making; he’s young and has some great experience, and he’s qualified too, so he’ll certainly be a coach with innovative ideas and new means of playing football.
Though whether it’s the right time for Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday to link up remains to be seen.
The lure of English football for an unproven coach like Rohl is great. But the Owls are in a pretty dire situation right now and Chansiri is not the easiest owner to work under so, for for Rohl, it’s certainly a risky job to potentially take on.
And for Wednesday, this appointment could go one of two ways. If it works then Chansiri looks like a genius, if not then Chansiri may rue not bringing in someone like Neil Warnock or maybe even Steve Bruce.
It definitely looks like Wednesday are moving towards Rohl though, as per Nixon’s Patreon reveal.
