Sheffield Wednesday have had a tough start to this season, failing to win any of their opening ten games in the Championship.
They have only picked up two points so far this season after draws with Middlesbrough and Leeds United.
This poor start has put manager Xisco Munoz under intense pressure in the last few weeks, and it appears his time is up.
Xisco Munoz has been sacked
Munoz has been sacked by Wednesday, as confirmed on their club website, following their 1-0 defeat away at West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday night.
The club have also confirmed that backroom staff Miguel Munoz, Miguel Gomila, Roberto Cuesta Roman and Antonello Brambilla have also departed the club with immediate effect.
Under-21s manager Neil Thompson is confirmed to be taking charge of the Owls’ next game, at home to Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.
It had been reported earlier this week that Munoz was on the verge of the sack.
Munoz joined the club in the summer following the Owls’ promotion to the Championship after winning the League One play-off final against Yorkshire rivals Barnsley.
Darren Moore was the man in charge that day, but was relieved of his duties by owner Dejphon Chansiri in June, after talks broke down over renewing his contract.
Munoz then took over at the start of July, but was not supported by the majority of fans after a weak managerial record, despite being promoted from the Championship to the Premier League in the 20/21 season.
Is sacking Xisco Munoz a good move?
Despite what has been a tough time behind the scenes for the club, this news will no doubt bring smiles to the faces of Sheffield Wednesday fans.
Munoz has had one of the worst starts in Championship history at Wednesday, and it never looked to be improving. His side have the worst attack, scoring five goals in ten games.
They had looked at bringing in Lyle Taylor, but his sacking may put that move in doubt.
Attention will have to turn to a replacement, but it is hard to see someone wanting to come to the club.
Especially after the owner’s lengthy statement put out on Friday morning, in which he confirmed he would no longer be putting in any more of his own money into the club.
