Sheffield Wednesday gem Bailey Cadamarteri is struggling for game time at Lincoln City, leading to growing speculation about a possible Owls recall in January.

So far this season, Sheffield Wednesday academy graduate Bailey Cadamarteri has scored five goals for Lincoln City in all competitions this season.

He’s the Imps’ joint top scorer in all competitions right now. Despite that, the 19-year-old is finding regular game time hard to come by with just seven starts in League One so far this season, and Lincoln City fans have given mixed reviews of Cadamarteri.

Ahead of January, there’s growing speculation that Sheffield Wednesday could recall Cadamarteri from Lincoln City and send him elsewhere on loan, in a bid to give him more starting experience.

Now, Sheffield Wednesday News has spoken to Lincoln City expert Jamie Johnson to get the lowdown on Cadamarteri, and the chances of him returning to Hillsborough in the winter transfer window.

Will Sheffield Wednesday recall Bailey Cadamarteri from Lincoln City?

Speaking to Sheffield Wednesday News, Johnson explained Cadamarteri’s situation and gave his verdict on whether a January return to S6 seems to be on the cards.

Johnson said: “I assume when Sheffield Wednesday shipped Bailey Cadamarteri on loan to Lincoln City it was in the vein of making sure he saw plenty of footballing minutes. However, that hasn’t always been the case.

“The striker has featured in 15 of Lincoln’s 18 League One games so far, but has started less than half of those. That has only brought him a return of three goals, while he hasn’t played a full 90 minutes for the Imps in league football.

“That is certainly not ideal for Wednesday or Cadamarteri himself. If the Owls see an opportunity to send him elsewhere, to secure more minutes and a consistent place in a starting lineup, that might be something that is considered during January.”

Johnson then revealed that Cadamarteri has fallen down the pecking order at the LNER Stadium, with Jovon Makama now the preferred striker.

“Cadamarteri has seemingly been placed below Jovon Makama in the pecking order, so right now it looks unlikely that he will be getting any more minutes than he currently is,” Johnson said. “If that is the case, and another offer is on the table, I would not be surprised if Wednesday recalled the hot prospect.”

What has Danny Rohl said about Bailey Cadamarteri’s Lincoln City loan spell?

Rohl spoke to the media on Thursday ahead of Sheffield Wednesday’s clash against Preston North End.

And Rohl discussed Cadamarteri’s loan spell at Lincoln City; backing the club’s decision to send him out on loan this season, but not ruling out a possible recall in the New Year.

Rohl said: “Of course, we look to the minutes. We know how the manager works there. He will take a lot of strikers during the game and from game to game.

“For Bailey it’s about, even if it’s 10, 15 minutes, work hard in this, try again. He’s scored some times now, this is good.

“It’s about playing week by week and then we will make a decision. But at the moment, I think it was not the wrong decision to take him for loan out.”

Cadamarteri has started just one of Lincoln’s last four games now. His side are in action at home to Charlton Athletic on Saturday and expect Wednesday to have one eye on the game, and whether or not Cadamarteri gets many minutes.
