Journalist Joe Crann has shared his verdict on Sheffield Wednesday and their summer transfer window so far.
Sheffield Wednesday have enjoyed a blistering start to the summer transfer window, with nine new players having signed so far.
Already this summer, the Owls have completed the permanent signings of Ben Hamer, Max Lowe, Yan Valery, Olaf Kobacki, Svante Ingelsson, Jamal Lowe, Nathaniel Chalobah, and Charlie McNeill, and the loan return of James Beadle from Brighton.
To add to that, Di’Shon Bernard has signed a new contract with Sheffield Wednesday, technically taking the Owls’ number of summer signings to 10.
The mood among Sheffield Wednesday supporters is unusually positive ahead of the 2024/25 Championship season.
Compared to this time last year, Sheffield Wednesday appear to be in a much better place, and they appear to be better-prepared to take on the Championship next time round.
Currently, the Sheffield Wednesday first-team squad are in Austria ahead of a pre-season friendly clash vs Red Bull Salzburg on Saturday, with a game vs Werder Bremen the following Friday.

Sheffield Wednesday have made the most signings of any Championship team so far this summer.
And unlike previous transfer windows, there’s definitely an air of quality among the quantity to have arrived at Hillsborough.
Giving his verdict on the club’s summer transfer business so far, journalist Joe Crann said on Owls Heaven: “It’s crazy. They’ve been so proactive with everything, and I think everybody deserves a load of credit for that.
“The chairman, Kevin Beadell [head of recruitment], Danny Rohl, everybody who’ been involved in that.
“And it’s not just them either, you look at Svante Ingelsson, there’s no doubt that [first-team coach] Henrik Pedersen had role to play in that, as the in-house Scandinavian.
“You look at Chris Powell and the work he’ll have done in making sure Di’Shon Bernard stuck around.
“All these people are involved in all of this process and I don’t think you can give enough credit, as things stand, to every single person who’s been involved in Sheffield Wednesday’s recruitment this summer.”
One underrated aspect at Sheffield Wednesday right now
Crann makes a very good point on the likes of Pedersen and Powell, in that they make up part of what is a very large back-room team who’ve all contributed to what’s been a very exciting summer transfer window.
The Owls have a very experienced coaching staff and one that will surely play a part in attracting players to the club, aside from Rohl and the newfound ambition at the club.
The likes of Powell and Pedersen can’t be underestimated in what Sheffield Wednesday achieved last season and what they might go on to achieve under Rohl in the future.
Hopes are becoming increasingly high for next season. Rohl and his new-look team look as though they could really surprise a few people in the Championship next season, but right now their focus will be on Salzburg.
