Sheffield Wednesday take on Scott Parker’s Burnley in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.
Sheffield Wednesday are back to Hillsborough this weekend following their successful away outing at Coventry City before the break.
Shea Charles score a late-winner as the Owls won 2-1 at Coventry, handing Danny Rohl’s side their seventh point in three games.
That win left Wednesday in 15th place of the Championship table for this month’s internationals compared to Burnley in 3rd.
Following the Clarets’ relegation from the Premier League last season, former Fulham and Bournemouth boss Scott Parker was appointed.
The ex-England midfielder has earned Championship promotion with Fulham and Bournemouth in the past and he now has Burnley challenging.
His side are one point off the top spot and have lost just one Championship game all season.
But ahead of his side’s trip to South Yorkshire, Parker has been dealt a bitter injury blow.
Burnley striker Lyle Foster likely to miss Sheffield Wednesday clash
Burnley striker Lyle Foster has been representing South Africa during this month’s international break.
He started an AFCON qualification game against Congo last Friday and scored South Africa’s fourth during a 5-0 win.
But the 24-year-old, who joined Burnley for a reported fee of £5.8million from Belgian outfit Westerlo in January 2023, was stretchered off during the second half.
Burnley Express have since revealed that Foster has returned to England prematurely, having been ruled out of South Africa’s second clash against Congo on Tuesday evening.
No direct comment has been made about Foster’s availability for this weekend’s game against Wednesday, though it seems highly likely that he’ll miss out.
One less player for Danny Rohl to worry about
Foster hasn’t exactly been in scoring form this season, having netted just once in eight Championship outings for the Clarets.
But he’s started the eight games he’s featured, playing an important role in what’s been a steady start to the season for Burnley.
And with Di’Shon Bernard injured and also likely to miss out this weekend, Foster’s injury is certainly one less thing for Rohl to worry about this weekend.
In Bernard’s likely absence, Gabriel Otegbayo has been tipped to feature in the squad to face Burnley.
So for both sides, especially when Burnley attack Wednesday, it could be a bit of a makeshift affair.
It should still be an exciting game though with Burnley no doubt wary of the threat that Wednesday pose.
