Sheffield Wednesday confirmed the appointment of their new manager Danny Röhl last week, and are set to add Chris Powell to join him.
Röhl replaces Xisco Munoz, who was sacked just before the international break after a winless start as Owls boss.
Röhl has already started bringing in some new faces to help him out, including former Manchester United psychologist Sascha Lense. But it appears he is still wanting to bring in some new faces,
Rohl set to add former England coach to back room team
According to Mike McGrath of the Daily Telegraph, Röhl is set to appoint former England coach Chris Powell as part of his back room staff.
Röhl has already appointed Lense as performance manager, and is now set to add the vastly experienced Powell to his back room team.
Who is Chris Powell?
Powell is a name known to many in England, who’s coaching experience is massive.
After retiring as a player in 2010, in which he represented the likes of Derby County and Charlton Athletic, the former England international first started his coaching career as caretaker manager at Leicester City, whom of which he finished his playing career with.
In 2011, he returned to Charlton as manager, where he managed them for three years. He secured the Addicks promotion to the Championship in his first season, before being sacked in March 2014.
In September 2014, he went on to manage Wednesday’s Yorkshire rivals in Huddersfield Town, but was sacked after 13 months.
He then became assistant to Nigel Pearson at former club Derby, even becoming caretaker manager, before reverting back to assistant under Steve McClaren, a role he held up until March 2017.
He also managed Southend for just over a year, before becoming coach with England in September 2019. He was part of the back room team that led the Three Lions to the final of Euro 2020, and the quarter finals of the 2022 World Cup, before leaving his role in March.
He was also a coach at Tottenham after a stint in Holland with ADO Den Haag, but left Spurs in August.
