Sheffield Wednesday take on Cardiff City in the Championship this weekend, in what’s going to be a very challenging game for the Owls.

Danny Rohl’s side are back at Hillsborough this weekend where they take on Championship strugglers Cardiff City.

Both teams went into the November break on the back of defeats: Sheffield Wednesday were beaten by Sheffield United whilst Cardiff lost against Blackburn Rovers.

The Bluebirds have lost their last two after a run of six games unbeaten, with four wins lifting them out of the drop zone briefly.

The Owls meanwhile have won just one of their last four in all competitions, losing three and currently finding themselves in 15th place of the Championship table compared to Cardiff in 22nd, though just three points stand between the two.

Ahead of the weekend, Rohl has a few Sheffield Wednesday injury concerns. But he could have one forgotten man back in action.

Michael Ihiekwe spotted in Sheffield Wednesday training after injury lay-off

Centre-back Michael Ihiekwe hasn’t played since the end of September owing to a niggling Achilles injury.

Rohl has never stressed a long-term or serious injury for the 32-year-old. But it seems as though Ihiekwe has been kept on the sidelines until he’s fully fit and able to step back into Championship action.

Ahead of the Cardiff City game on Saturday lunchtime, Sheffield Wednesday have shared a number of training images, one of which features Ihiekwe in action.

It could suggest that the Englishman, who’s played four times in the Championship this season, could be in line for a return to the matchday squad for this weekend’s game in S6.

Sheffield Wednesday injuries and suspensions ahead of Cardiff City

Ihiekwe’s likely return to action is good timing given the recent injury blow for Akin Famewo, and the congested run of games coming up.

But Ihiekwe will likely be the back-up option at centre-back with Max Lowe now impressing as a left centre-back.

Elsewhere, Nathaniel Chalobah is expected to return for Sheffield Wednesday either in November or December, having yet to feature in the Championship since his summer move to the club.

Olaf Kobacki is the other injury absentee right now and he’s expected to be on the sidelines for several more weeks yet.

Going into the game against Cardiff City, Di’Shon Bernard and Yan Valery risk one-game suspensions with both players currently on four yellow cards in the Championship this season.

Kick off is at 12:30pm on Saturday afternoon.
