One Sheffield Wednesday player surprisingly shone for Danny Rohl’s side against Luton Town.
The Owls yet again suffered defeat on the road as Luton Town won 2-1, despite a brilliant goal from Barry Bannan.
Sheffield Wednesday were certainly the brighter of the two sides in the first half as a chance for Josh Windass saw the Owls almost take the lead against Luton Town.
There was also a big opportunity for polish winger Olaf Kobacki, who tried his luck from distance and certainly did cause trouble.
There was speculation over whether Marvin Johnson was able to replicate his solid performance against Queens Park Rangers last weekend for Danny Rohl’s side, and he too looked very assured yet again, both defensively and offensively.
It looked like Bannan heroics were yet again going to make the vital difference after an incredible finish to make it two goals in as many games for the Owls captain.
But a controversial decision to award the hosts with a penalty and a red card for Di’Shon Bernard turned the game on its head and Carlton Palmer then went on to bag two goals in the final minutes.
Despite Bannan’s performance, there was one unlikely star for Sheffield Wednesday, whose performance has rightfully been labelled as ‘fantastic’.

Sheffield Wednesday defender Akin Famewo starred against Luton Town
Owls defender Akin Famewo is one whose place in the starting line up for Rohl’s side is far from guaranteed with the depth of having the likes of Di’Shon Bernard, Michael Ihiekwe and Liam Palmer, who can play as a make-shift centre-back.
They even have the option of Dominic Iorfa usually, however the 29-year-old currently finds himself not quite at 100% fitness.
However, Rohl most certainly won’t be regretting his decision to play Famewo after such a brilliant and assured defensive display at the heart of the back-line, despite his side eventually falling behind late on.
He was rightfully described by Joe Crann on X as ‘fantastic’, with him particularly highlighting ‘his positioning and timing’, which he saw as ‘excellent’.

Akin Famewo could become unlikely hero for Sheffield Wednesday
There is no doubt that Famewo is not the first choice when it comes to defenders for Rohl, with the defender certainly coming behind both Bernard and Iorfa in the pecking order at this moment.
However, Iorfa’s unavailability clearly opened up a massive opportunity for the defender, and he most certainly took it after such an astounding performance away from home, and it could even be a chance that once Iorfa returns, he may not be handed a start in Rohl’s side on a silver platter.
The 25-year-old was not even involved in the first three games of Sheffield Wednesday’s season, with him not even featuring in the squad for Rohl’s side, but after following up his first appearance last weekend against Queens Park Rangers with a solid showing against a recently-relegated Premier League outfit, there is every chance that he could cement his place in the side, as even though the Owls left with zero points, there will be plenty of positives taken from Famewo’s performance.
