Sheffield Wednesday were busy during the summer transfer window. But they might have missed one key position.
In total, Sheffield Wednesday signed 11 new players during the summer transfer window, with the loan signing of Shea Charles being the last.
Charles plugs a vital gap in the midfield and gives Rohl another steady option in that department, which has been a subject of debate among fans so far this season.
Rohl is facing a bit of a midfield conundrum with Barry Bannan coming under criticism, and with Svante Ingelsson having not lived up to the hype of his impressive debut performance during the 4-0 win vs Plymouth Argyle.
There’s other positions on the pitch which seem either light or up for grabs right now, with centre-back another position that seems like weak-spot in the side.
No new centre-backs arrived during the summer transfer window. And last time out during the 3-0 defeat vs Millwall, Dominic Iorfa was injured, leaving just Di’Shon Bernard, Michael Ihiekwe, and Akin Famewo as the available centre-backs.

Dom Howson transfer verdict at Sheffield Wednesday
Discussing possible free agent signings at Hillsborough, journalist Dom Howson gave his thoughts on the current options, highlighting the lack of centre-backs.
Howson believes that Rohl is ‘definitely’ a centre-back light at the minute, whilst also suggesting that the club is yet to find the ‘ideal partner’ for Bernard.
Bernard signed a new Sheffield Wednesday contract during the summer after technically becoming a free agent.
The Owls tied Bernard down to a three-year deal but he’s so far had a very mixed season.
Same old issue for Danny Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday
Last season, Rohl often chopped and changed his centre-backs pairs.
Bernard was the regular starter and Ihiekwe eventually asserted himself in that position, though Rohl would change it up again going into this season, preferring Iorfa and Bernard.
Iorfa hasn’t been that impressive so far. Whereas Ihiekwe looked a more assured options when he came in against Millwall.
Rohl needs to stick with one centre-back pairing for a prolonged period of time, so that he can give the two time to form a partnership on the pitch.
That said, Rohl should’ve signed a new centre-back in the summer; to provide extra cover and to give Bernard a long-term partner in that position.
Like Howson says, that position is looking very thin on the ground right now, and another injury could really cause a selection headache.
