Sheffield Wednesday signed 11 new players in the summer. Some of them have had huge impacts since, whilst others haven’t.
Sheffield Wednesday fans were full of praise for Dejphon Chansiri in the summer as the club kept on signing new players.
In August, the Owls’ loan signing of Shea Charles from Southampton proved to be the last of their 11 summer signings, and now Danny Rohl has turned his attentions to January.
There could be several comings and goings at Hillsborough in January. For Sheffield Wednesday, Rohl says the focus is on loan signings, ideally from the Premier League.
Speaking to the press on Friday, though, Rohl was asked about one summer signings who’s not played so much in recent weeks – Jamal Lowe.
The Jamaican international has featured 12 times in the Championship this season, scoring once and assisting twice. But Lowe hasn’t started a league game since mid-October, playing just 20 minutes of the last four outings.

Danny Rohl explains Jamal Lowe’s lack of game time at Sheffield Wednesday
Lowe was a very exciting signing for the Owls in the summer, and he looked very good in pre-season too.
Joe Crann hailed Lowe’s early impact at Sheffield Wednesday, with the 30-year-old often starting games earlier on in the campaign, either in the middle or on the left side.
But Rohl has now suggested that Lowe has some areas to improve if he wants to get more regular game time at Wednesday in the coming weeks.
The Owls boss said on Friday: “We have up front, just three positions sometimes, and then I have to make decisions.
“I know his [Lowe’s] quality, and he knows as well, which parts he has to work on. I think he will. And for him, it’s now; be ready for the next opportunity, because this opportunity can come very soon.”
What is Jamal Lowe’s Sheffield Wednesday contract and weekly wage?
Sheffield Wednesday signed Lowe on a free transfer in the summer after he was released by Premier League Bournemouth.
The Owls don’t often reveal contract lengths of new players. But a report from Football Insider in the summer claimed that Lowe had signed a two-year deal with Wednesday, with an option for a third.
And per Capology, Lowe earns £18,000-a-week at Wednesday, making him the sixth highest-earner at the club.
If he can’t make an impact in the remainder of this season then he could be one who the club looks to cash in on next summer; make a profit on a player they signed for nothing and take some money off the wage bill at the same time.
