Sheffield Wednesday may be about to suffer a damning blow in pursuit of one of their summer striker targets.
Sheffield Wednesday have bolstered their first-team squad with nine new players this summer.
But for manager Danny Rohl, there’s still some positions that may be in need of one or two more bodies; mainly at centre-back and up top.
Di’Shon Bernard has signed a new Sheffield Wednesday contract to bolster Rohl’s options at the back.
And Josh Windass has re-signed for Sheffield Wednesday, adding to the Owls’ attack along with the likes of Charlie McNeill, Jamal Lowe, and Olaf Kobacki who’ve all joined this summer.
But Rohl needs that extra bit of star quality at both centre-back and on the no.9 position; perhaps in attack more than most with Windass unlikely to be able to last a full season, and with many more experienced options in that position lacking.
Sheffield Wednesday want to re-sign Ike Ugbo and the Owls have also been linked with Sory Kaba at Las Palmas, with January target Duncan McGuire also a reported option.

Sheffield Wednesday tried to sign McGuire from Orlando City in January this year, and were linked once again as the summer transfer window opened for business.
McGuire is currently away on international duty with USA in the Olympics in France.
He’s scored seven in 19 MLS games for Orlando City so far this season and sees his current deal expire at the end of 2024.
There’s widespread speculation that he’ll leave the club this summer with McGuire having interest from around Europe.
But The Athletic have now revealed that Orlando City are set to trigger a two-year extension to McGuire’s deal, with the MLS club determined to keep hold of their star striker.

Latest Duncan McGuire update could mean one thing for Sheffield Wednesday
A move for McGuire has long seemed like an expensive one for Sheffield Wednesday.
And this latest update could well push McGuire out of their price range with a deal until the end of 2026 allowing Orlando to up the asking price by whatever they want.
So Sheffield Wednesday could completely drop their interest in McGuire, if they haven’t already, and put even more focus on a deal for Ugbo, or for Kaba.
There’s suggestions in Europe that an unnamed British club has had a bid accepted for Kaba, with Sheffield Wednesday possibly being that club.
Time will tell who Sheffield Wednesday bring in as their marquee striker signing this summer.
