This Sheffield Wednesday transfer target is set to undergo a medical before the transfer deadline, but not with the Owls.
Sheffield Wednesday have already missed out on a number of January transfer targets. And now Danny Rohl looks set to miss out on another target in Duncan McGuire.
The USMNT striker has been heavily linked with both Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers.
Both have made several bids for the 22-year-old and there’s been a lot of back and forth as to which team is actually leading the race for his signature.
But now, it seems like the Owls‘ pursuit of the Orlando City man is all but over.
Duncan McGuire set for Blackburn Rovers medical
Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath has now revealed that McGuire is flying to England to undergo a medical with Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers.
He posted on X earlier this morning:
So far this month, Sheffield Wednesday have signed James Beadle and Ike Ugbo, both on loan, but have missed out on players like Conor Coventry and Darko Gyabi, with McGuire now looking like another target that the Owls have let slip.

Missing out on McGuire is obviously a blow.
Sheffield Wednesday and Rohl were clearly keen on signing him and it seems like a new striker could well be the final piece of the puzzle for the Owls.
But the fact that Wednesday and owner Dejphon Chansiri were willing to spend nearly £3million on the player shows that they do actually have some funding, and that there could be some late spending going on at Hillsborough.
Fans will say that this spending should’ve been done earlier in the month as to avoid the risk of a panic buy, but better late than never.
Rohl and his recruitment team will go into deadline day knowing that there’s money to be spent, though time is certainly of the essence now.
But deadline day often sees players become available right at the last minute as other clubs manage to get their own transfer business done, so typically it’s the busiest day of the window, and Wednesday are still in with a chance of signing one or two new names.
It promises to be a chaotic deadline day for all in the Championship, especially Sheffield Wednesday.
And to make matters a bit more complicated, Sheffield Wednesday are in Championship action against Watford later this evening.
