Sheffield Wednesday loan man James Beadle made his England U21s debut this week.

Brighton man James Beadle shone for Sheffield Wednesday during the second half of last season.

The 20-year-old kept eight clean sheets in 19 Championship outings and played a huge role in the Owls’ eventual 20th place finish under Danny Rohl last season.

Rohl was desperate to bring him back, and Sheffield Wednesday eventually signed Beadle on a season-long loan from Brighton.

This 2024/25 season has been somewhat tougher for both Wednesday and Beadle though, with three-straight defeats leaving the club in 20th place of the Championship table as things stand.

Despite the poor start, Beadle has trained with the England senior team during this month’s international break, and Beadle also made his England U21s debut in the 4-1 win vs Austria.

Since, Beadle has posted on Instagram to celebrate, and several stars, including some current and former Sheffield Wednesday players have reacted.

Former Sheffield Wednesday man Cameron Dawson reacts to James Beadle post

Among those to comment on Beadle’s post was Cameron Dawson.

The former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper was displaced in the starting XI by Beadle last season.

Despite that, the pair seemed to maintain a positive relationship.

Dawson has since moved on, leaving Hillsborough as a free agent at the end of last season and joining Rotherham United in League One.

Dawson commented on Beadle’s post: “Brilliant mate”, whilst others including Jamal Lowe, Rio Shipston, Charlie McNeill, and Pierce Charles replied with emojis.

Sheffield Wednesday summer target Mark O’Mahony also reacted to the post; he’s played with Beadle through the Brighton youth ranks.

Others to react to the post included Manchester City’s James McAtee, Burnley’s James Trafford, and Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney.

What next for James Beadle at Sheffield Wednesday

Despite a rocky start to the new season with Sheffield Wednesday, it’s clear that Beadle is held in very high regards on the international scene.

And it’s likely because of his ability to play out from the back, which has certainly been tested at Wednesday this time round.

But as fans saw in the second half of last season, Beadle has the ability to rapidly improve, and as the season goes on, he’s surely improve even more.

Expect Rohl to keep the pressure on Beadle to keep playing out from the back, but expect Beadle to rise to the challenge throughout the season.
