Sheffield Wednesday moved into the top half of the Championship table after beating Hull City 2-0 away from home on Tuesday night.
Sheffield Wednesday headed to the MKM Stadium for a second time this season, this time in the Championship as Danny Rohl’s side looked to bounce back from a frustrating draw against Cardiff City at the weekend.
Earlier in the campaign, Sheffield Wednesday beat Hull City in the Carabao Cup. And the Owls looked very dangerous in the first 45 against the Tigers, eventually scoring through a first penalty in 558 days, with Josh Windass the one to convert.
The second half was all Hull City, though. The Tigers threw the kitchen sink at Sheffield Wednesday who stood up tall, and eventually scored a second through Michael Smith on the counter.
Three points on the road leaves Sheffield Wednesday in 12th place of the Championship table.

Sheffield Wednesday player ratings vs Hull City
James Beadle – 8/10
Little wobble early on when the ball went through his legs. But kept his side in the game with two unbelievable saves in the first half.
Marvin Johnson – 7/10
Got up and down. That drilled pass in the first half was a thing of beauty. Picked out a nice long ball for Musaba in the build up to Smith’s goal.
Max Lowe – 6.5/10
Solid once again at the back. Really making this left centre-back position his own. Really is beneficial for Johnson to have a solid centre-back behind him.
Di’Shon Bernard 6.5/10
Not his most commanding performance but stood up well. Battled well and won some key duels in the air and on the ground too.
Yan Valery – 6/10
Couple of shaky moments at the back but overall fairly solid. But contributed to a good overall defensive performance.
Pol Valentin – 7.5/10
Instant impact on his return to the side. Was really effective going forward and had the beating of the Hull City left-back in the first 45. Defended relatively well in the second half before coming off.
Barry Bannan – 8.5/10
Some really neat passing in the opening stages. After Wednesday went in front, Bannan was running rings around Hull City and completely dictating play. Similar story in the second half when Wednesday did have possession.
Shea Charles – 7.5/10
Driving force for the Owls. Made some good interventions at both ends of the pitch on the night. Much better than he was against Cardiff City.
Djeidi Gassama – 7.5/10
Real livewire for Wednesday. Showed composure to play in Josh Windass after a good run. Gives the Owls some much-needed energy and drive in attack and after two starts, the Frenchman seems to have staked a claim for a regular starting spot.
Josh Windass 6.5/10
Should’ve scored early on, but scored what was a very high pressure penalty for the Owls. Brought off at half-time, likely for rotational purposes.

Ike Ugbo – 6/10
Worked hard as ever. Had a good sight of goal early on but goes another Championship game without scoring. Off at the break.
Michael Smith – 6.5/10
Put himself about up front and had a couple of nice touches and lay-offs. Didn’t see much of the ball as Wednesday did a lot of defending in the second half. But took his goal very well.
Anthony Musaba – 6/10
Came on at half-time with Smith, and like Smith he really didn’t have much to do. Made a very nice pass for Smith’s goal late on.
