Sheffield Wednesday has a new fan favourite after a brilliant performance against Plymouth Argyle.
Sheffield Wednesday kicked off their 2024/25 Championship campaign with a thoroughly deserved victory against Plymouth Argyle, which saw the hosts run rampant in a 4-0 victory.
Danny Rohl has clearly put extensive work into his side during the six weeks of pre-season, and it has clearly paid off dividends as every player on the pitch played to the best of their abilities.
Following the game, Rohl was full of praise for his defence, whose clean sheet was the ‘most important thing’ about his side’s victory.
As for the opposition manager, Wayne Rooney highlighted Barry Bannan as the Sheffield Wednesday player who ‘controlled the game’ and he did so with the help of new recruit Svante Ingelsson in the middle of the park, who was able to put in the dirty work and played a massive role in diminishing any potential Plymouth Argyle attacks.
After such a comprehensive victory for the Owls in S6, it shows that Rohl has got a brilliant new asset as part of his side.

Svante Ingelsson gives ‘monster’ performance in Sheffield Wednesday debut
Many debutants played an incredible game against Plymouth Argyle, including Yan Valery, who was praised by many Owls fans on social media.
However, one man that outshone the former Southampton full-back was Ingelsson, who was described as a ‘monster’ in a game where he was issued a ‘9/10’ rating, per The Star.
Sheffield Wednesday’s midfield was transformed as a result of the Swede’s efforts and it shows in the numbers as, per SofaScore, managed to break up play with three tackles in the centre-of-the-park, whilst on the playmaking side achieved a 75% success rate with his long balls, managed 55 touches of the ball and most importantly set up Jamal Lowe with an assist.

Svante Ingelsson can prove to be Danny Rohl’s Sheffield Wednesday signing yet
Based on Ingelsson’s first run-out in a Sheffield Wednesday kit, there will be a lot to see of the Swede this season as he is perfect at doing the dirty-work for Rohl’s side, and could prove to be an unsung hero throughout the course of the campaign.
Whilst it would be incredibly early to label Ingelsson as one of Rohl’s best signings so far for Sheffield Wednesday, especially with the qualities shown by January signings Ike Ugbo and James Beadle, both of which have returned to Hillsborough this season, any replica of that performance from him can prove to be game-changing.
The new Wednesday midfielder arrived from German side Hansa Rostock on a free transfer, and arrived with very little expectation, particularly with him expected to play as back-up to Nathaniel Chalobah, however the abilities that he left out on the Hillsborough pitch certainly have all the hallmarks of an incredible coup for Rohl.
