Sheffield Wednesday fans have given their verdict after Yan Valery made his Owls competitive debut.
Sheffield Wednesday managed to kick off the 2024/25 Championship season with an emphatic victory against Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle.
Danny Rohl’s side managed to play their opposition off the park for the full 90 minutes, with many players impressing in the clash at Hillsborough.
Svante Ingelsson was one name that has been mentioned by every Sheffield Wednesday fan as he played an emphatic role alongside Barry Bannan in the centre-of-the-park and managed to get an assist for debutant Jamal Lowe’s goal.
Josh Windass also impressed in attack for Sheffield Wednesday and managed to grab a goal, whilst Michael Smith also got his name on the scoresheet late on to put the final nail in the coffin for Plymouth Argyle.
Yan Valery also managed to shine on his debut, and was given raving reviews from fans across social media.

Yan Valery hailed as ‘sensational’ after Sheffield Wednesday debut
Many fans took to X/Twitter to hail Valery after the full-back played a brilliant part in Rohl’s side.
One fan took an instant likening to the Tunisian international as they said ‘Valery looks a serious player’, whilst others praised the full-back alongside the other Owls debutants, with one fan writing ‘I love the look of Valery & Ingelsson’, whilst another wrote ‘Valery and Lowe were outstanding’.
The 25-year-old, who had previously played under Rohl at Southampton whilst the German boss was assistant-manager, was able to revolutionise the right-side and caused havoc for the Plymouth Argyle left-back, as one fan recognised that he ‘loved that right-hand-side of Valery and Gassama’.
One Sheffield Wednesday fan compared Valery’s debut with Ingelsson’s, as they believed that he was ‘absolutely sensational too’.

Yan Valery partnership with Djeidi Gassama could work wonders this season
As one Sheffield Wednesday fan put it, the new Owls full-back managed to work incredibly well down the right flank with Gassama.
Full-backs are clearly incredibly crucial as part of Rohl’s set up, and it looks as if the German manager has found his perfect man to be able to provide the offensive output that he wants from a wide defender.
The linking up with Gassama looked as if the pair had a season under their belt playing with each other, so for there to be such chemistry and cohesion between the two on the first competitive game of the season suggests that these two could easily cause serious havoc to left-backs across the Championship.
Whilst he also played an impressive part on the defensive front, Valery was able to deliver several brilliant crosses into the box and was very nimble with his feet, something that Gassama has also shown in his past season at the club.
With the pair already working very well together, it will be likely that they will become a constant in this Sheffield Wednesday side.
