Sheffield Wednesday are still continuing their pursuit to bring Ike Ugbo back to Hillsborough.
Despite an incredibly bright and optimistic summer of bringing in necessary talent and depth, whilst also tying down the future of key players in and around the squad, the uncertainty involving Ike Ugbo’s future has taken centre stage.
Danny Rohl has always been an admirer of the Canadian striker following his emphatic loan stint in the second half of the 2023/24 Championship season, where Ugbo netted seven league goals to keep Sheffield Wednesday up.
Ugbo also has previous Championship experience with Cardiff City, whilst also having an electric stint in Ligue 1 with Troyes in the 2021/22 campaign, making him an exciting prospect for any Championship side.
Since a deal to bring the Canadian back has taken its time, Championship side Sunderland have swooped in for a deal to bring the attacker to the Stadium of Light, however confidence remains on Sheffield Wednesday’s side of the transfer.

Sheffield Wednesday still ‘have confidence’ in Ike Ugbo transfer pursuit
Despite concrete interest from Sunderland who were seen as ‘closer’ on the front of providing a more attractive payment package for Ugbo, confidence still remains from Sheffield Wednesday, who also reportedly agreed a fee in the region of £2.5million.
Per Alex Miller on X, Sheffield Wednesday’s hopes of pursuing a deal for the Canadian international are far from dead, as there still remains to be ‘confidence it will happen’.
However, Sheffield Wednesday are clearly in a race against time to secure a deal for the Troyes striker due to the fact that ‘other club interest is there’.
Sheffield Wednesday losing out on Ike Ugbo could be detrimental to their season
The Owls may have sleep-walked into a transfer frenzy for one of their key targets in Ugbo, whose transfer was expected to have ‘been done by now’, replied Miller on X.
It’s clear that Ugbo has been one of Rohl’s key targets in bolstering his attacking output ahead of the new campaign, something that Sheffield Wednesday can’t afford to slip away from them, especially with it potentially strengthening a Championship rival.
Sory Kaba has been seen as a second-choice target for Rohl’s side, however it is clear that there was a clear desire to bring Ugbo back as a result of the certainty that he already has and will thrive under the German boss.
Sheffield Wednesday must make no mistake in their next steps of pursuing a deal for Ugbo, and all energy must be put on ensuring that the deal comes into fruition sooner rather than later.
