Sheffield Wednesday look set for a busy final few days of the summer transfer window.

The Owls got most of their business done in the early stages of the window, completing the last of their ten signings when Ike Ugbo’s return was confirmed earlier this month.

However, they are still looking to recruit further players before Thursday’s deadline and have so far been linked with strikers and midfielders.

Sheffield Wednesday look set to complete a loan deal for Shea Charles to add a defensive option to their midfield, while they have also been pushing to sign Brighton striker Mark O’Mahony.

Sheffield Wednesday lose race for Premier League striker

It was reported earlier this week that the club were optimistic about signing the teenager, who scored ten goals in eleven games in Premier League 2 last season.

However, it now looks like O’Mahony is joining one of Wednesday’s Championship rivals instead.

Journalist Neil Allen wrote on X this morning: “It’s happening, Mark O’Mahony has even passed his Portsmouth medical, yet there has been a little delay. Nothing to worry about!”

It looks like Wednesday are completely out of the race for the youngster now and will have to hope they don’t regret not pushing harder to bring him to Yorkshire.

O’Mahony may well have preferred to stay on the south coast, or he may have been more likely to pick up regular game-time at Fratton Park.

Either way, the Owls need to dust themselves off and find a new striker option before deadline day.

The Owls need to find a Mark O’Mahony alternative

It seems that the club are keen to make it a loan addition, so are likely to keep their eyes on the Premier League.

The likes of Will Lankshear (Tottenham) and Tom Cannon (Leicester) could well be available, while free agent Aaron Connolly is still without a club after being released by Hull City.

Signing a free agent could be a good idea for the Owls, as it could be tough convincing a Premier League club to loan another player if he is going to struggle for minutes.

Ugbo will likely be number one choice up front this term, while Jamal Lowe may play centrally occasionally and Charlie McNeill is likely to have more of a role to player after netting a brace in the Carabao Cup.

If Danny Rohl is to offload Michael Smith in the next few days then it could also be useful to bring in a more experienced player to take his role.
