Sheffield Wednesday are considering terminating one of their loans early.
Jeff Hendrick hasn’t played for Sheffield Wednesday since the win over Blackburn Rovers last month, and it was recently confirmed he is struggling with a knee injury.
The midfielder has only managed five starts in the Championship this season and it is unclear when he will return to full fitness, or whether he will play for The Owls again.
According to The Star, Sheffield Wednesday are now in talks to bring his loan spell to an end in the January transfer window, as they want to free up space for new arrivals.
Danny Rohl has already offloaded John Buckley and Tyreeq Bakinson, while Devis Vasquez is also expected to return to AC Milan prematurely. The German coach still wants some fringe players to leave Hillsborough though, before he can add his own players to his ranks.
The report claims that Sheffield Wednesday have already had ‘conversations’ regarding Hendrick’s time with the club, as they consider whether to send him back to St. James’ Park.
However, he currently looks more likely to see out his loan spell than return to Newcastle – though ‘that could change’.
Should Sheffield Wednesday offload Jeff Hendrick early?
It’s unclear what percentage of Jeff Hendrick’s wages Sheffield Wednesday are paying, but a chunk of his £35,000-per-week salary is surely taking its toll on Dejphon Chansiri’s wallet.

The ‘demon’ midfielder has missed out on the last eight matches in all competitions and is likely to be even further down the pecking order than before when he finally makes his comeback.
With Momo Diaby also back in the side following a spell on the sidelines, any new arrivals could leave Hendrick surplus to requirements at Hillsborough.
The Owls have already been linked with a move for West Ham’s Conor Coventry, while a recent report has also claimed that George Byers is likely to remain at the club too.
This means Hendrick could find himself behind Coventry, Byers, Diaby, Will Vaulks, and Barry Bannan in Danny Rohl’s plans.
Sheffield Wednesday should definitely consider letting him go back to Tyneside, while Newcastle would surely prefer to try and sell him this month ahead of his contract expiry in the summer.
