Sheffield Wednesday have no intention to sell their key man, who has been linked with a move away this month.
George Byers was the rumoured player set to face the chopping block if Sheffield Wednesday were to sign West Ham’s Conor Coventry this month.
The midfielder joined The Owls from Swansea City in 2021 and played a key role in winning promotion to the Championship, netting six goals in 24 games.
Byers has taken up a regular spot under Danny Rohl too, starting ten of his 15 league games in charge this season.
However, that hasn’t stopped him from being linked with a move away. It was reported that Sheffield Wednesday were targeting Conor Coventry, which could see Byers leave to free up space in the squad.
The Star have now played down the rumours though, claiming that Byers remains in Danny Rohl’s plans and they aren’t considering any approaches for his signature at the moment.
The 27-year-old has previously spoken of his desire to stay at Sheffield Wednesday and help them stay in the Championship, but his long-term future still remains unclear as he enters the final six months of his contract.
Should George Byers leave Sheffield Wednesday?
George Byers has been a very important asset to Sheffield Wednesday’s revival in recent months – making the second-most interceptions in the squad (30) and blocking the second-most passes (21).
The former Swansea City man is a huge fan of the club and works his socks off, which is exactly what we need at Hillsborough in the final stages of the season.

To move on such an important cog in Danny Rohl’s plans and also a key man in the dressing room would just disturb the atmosphere around the club right now.
Whether he stays beyond the summer is another question, but Sheffield Wednesday just need to keep hold of him this month for now.
Byers is one of 15 players whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the season, after signing a £6.7k-per-week contract two-and-a-half years ago.
He’s not the only first team regular who could leave either, with the likes of Di’Shon Bernard, Dominic Iorfa and Barry Bannan all closing in.
We could surely see The Owls offload some of these players in January to free up space and avoid leaving for free in the summer, while some loanees could also cut their time in Yorkshire short.
The likes of Lee Gregory, Josh Windass and Liam Palmer have already been linked with the exit door. But while Danny Rohl looks to make some room in his squad, he also needs to concentrate on extending the stays of some of his most important players.
