Sheffield Wednesday have been handed a boost in their pursuit of a Premier League defender.
The Owls haven’t done any further business since signing Shea Charles on loan from Southampton earlier this week.
However, Sheffield Wednesday were expected to go in for a left-footed defender before tonight’s deadline as they look to bolster their backline.
Recent reports have claimed that the Yorkshire outfit are in talks with Everton over a deal for Mason Holgate.
The ‘fantastic’ 27-year-old made ten appearances whilst on loan at Sheffield United last season, but has since returned to Goodison Park.

Mason Holgate move has now fallen through
Holgate has only featured for five minutes this season and now looks highly likely to leave Merseyside on deadline day.
While Wednesday are interested in signing Holgate, they faced tough competition from Lyon.
It was believed that the defender was close to joining the French giants, but journalist Paul Joyce has now claimed a permanent move has fallen through.
It could give the Owls the perfect opportunity to swoop in and snap him up, though it’s unclear how much they would have to pay to bring him in permanently.
Holgate only has a year left on his contract, while his market value is around £4.2m.
Would Holgate be a good signing for Sheffield Wednesday?
The Everton academy product would provide great versatility for Danny Rohl, having played at both centre-back and right-back in his career.
Holgate was highly-rated when he was younger, but never lived up to the potential. He also failed to impress in the Championship with Southampton, seeing his loan spell terminated early in February.
He could still be a useful asset to have to act as back-up, but Rohl is unable to get the best out of him then it still feels like it could be a weak link.
Di’Shon Bernard is a guaranteed starter for Wednesday, but Dominic Iorfa could really do with some competition.
Fans should always have faith in Rohl though and the potential signing can’t be judged until he steps foot on the pitch.
