Sheffield Wednesday have handed 18-year-old Dan Ellison a trial with their U21s.
As per The Star, the defender made his first start for the youth side as they beat Hull City in the Professional Development League on Tuesday.
Dan Ellison currently plies his trade in non-league football, featuring for National League South club Chippenham Town.
Sheffield Wednesday are eager to keep bolstering their U21 side in order to improve the likeliness of them making it to the first team, with Ellison the latest temporary addition to be given his big chance.
The teenage ‘star boy’ was handed his first start of his trial on Tuesday evening, alongside Ciaran Brennan, Adam Alimi-Adetoro and the two wing-backs, Gui Siqueira and Sam Reed.
The Owls claimed a comfortable 5-2 win over Hull, with captain Reed bagging a brace, while Rio Shipston, Devlan Moses and Favour Onukwuli all got on the scoresheet in North Ferriby.
Ellison will be hoping he managed to impress on his first outing for the U21s, while he will be eager to contribute some goals after already hitting three goals in six games in the National League this season.
Sheffield Wednesday U21s now sit five points below league leaders Sheffield United and will host Wigan Athletic next weekend, where Ellison will be eager to make another great impression at the back.
Sheffield Wednesday have most recently seen Bailey Cadamarteri come through the youth ranks, having joined the Owls way back in 2014.
The young forward made his Championship debut earlier this month before he went onto make a cameo appearance in the weekend’s defeat to Birmingham City.
Danny Rohl has previously praised the youngster and it looks like he intends to make full use of his talent for the remainder of the season.
Can Sheffield Wednesday U21s make the jump up to Championship football?
The breakthrough of Cadamarteri should push the U21s to do better, because when the first team is really struggling, Rohl is clearly not afraid to turn to his younger players to come and make an impact.
The Owls have previously seen plenty of success through their academy, with names including Mark Beevers, Liam Palmer, Jamie Vardy and Leigh Bromby all making the step up in the past.
Dan Ellison will be desperate to earn himself a full-time contract in Yorkshire and could join the likes of Vardy and Michail Antonio making their way up from non-league football.
