Sheffield Wednesday lost 4-0 at home to Millwall on Saturday, but the game saw Bailey Cadamarteri make his league debut for the Owls.
Sheffield Wednesday conceded twice either side of half time with Danny Rohl now having lost four of first five matches in charge, seeing his side remain rooted to the foot of the table.
But in a positive, Cadamarteri was entrusted to make his debut on Saturday, coming on at half time and putting in a lot of energy and ground coverage which impressed the watching Wednesday faithful.
And after the game, Cadamarteri posted on Instagram, to which several fellow Wednesday youngsters commented with messages of congratulations.
Several including Jay Buchan, Jay Glover, Rio Shipston, and Ciaran Brennan commented on Cadamarteri’s post after the game.
A plus for the Owls…
It was a tough game for Cadamarteri to make his debut in. But now that he has made his first league outing for the club, he’ll have gained a lot of knowledge and experience which will hold him in good stead going forward.
He’ll know what to expect from a tough Championship game and Rohl will also have an idea of what he can bring to the first-team, so all round, Cadamarteri making his debut is a huge plus for Sheffield Wednesday.
What’s more is that Cadamarteri and his pacy, lively style will offer Rohl something different to what he currently has to choose from in attack.
A first Sheffield Wednesday start for Cadamarteri?
Wednesday are really struggling this season, particularly in attack, and so Rohl may feel like he has nothing to lose by starting Cadamarteri sooner rather than later.
He remains very young and inexperienced and so he won’t be rushed into that situation. But expect a couple more substitute appearances in the coming weeks and then expect Cadamarteri to be pushing for a start; should he impress that is.
Wednesday have another tough run of fixtures after the break. Birmingham City is up next and the Owls may feel they can take something from that one, but Leicester City follows, followed by Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City.
There’s a crunch match against a somewhat new-look QPR side in December, as well as a trip to Coventry, and Cadamarteri might be eyeing up starts against one of these lower Championship clubs.
