Sheffield Wednesday have had an approach by Rotherham for an out of favour attacker.
Sheffield Wednesday have already seen two players leave for pastures new, where they have ended up at South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United.
Long-standing Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Cameron Dawson moved on, with the Owls replacing him with James Beadle, who returned for his second loan spell at the club.
Reece James was another who moved on to join up with Steve Evans’ side following his departure from Hillsborough, one which saw him play a significant role in Sheffield Wednesday’s promotion from League One whilst on loan from Blackpool.
As for League One interest in Sheffield Wednesday’s current crop of players, there is interest in Bailey Cadamarteri, with Wrexham reportedly leading the race to sign the youngster.
However, another Sheffield Wednesday attacker has emerged as having interest this summer following a lengthy spell without getting significant game time for the club.
Rotherham United interested in Sheffield Wednesday castaway Mallik Wilks
Sheffield Wednesday winger Mallik Wilks has piqued the interest of League One outfit Rotherham United this summer, per Alex Miller on X.
When asked about the pursuit of Wilks, Rotherham United boss Steve Evans said: “Yeah, we like Mallik [Wilks] a lot.
“Probably at the minute we can’t afford his left boot, never mind his right boot. It just seems to be a breakdown in communications.
“We can’t seem to get a definitive ‘yes’ or ‘no’. We get a ‘Well, can you do this? Maybe, maybe not.
“The negotiations are at Rob Scott [director of football recruitment] level. I’d have probably thrown my dummy out and walked away had it been me.”
There are reportedly issues involving the deal in terms of ‘cost’ and Sheffield Wednesday’s demands for the winger.

Sheffield Wednesday need to cut their losses with Mallik Wilks
Sheffield Wednesday are in a position of comfort to play hard-ball over Wilks’ future if needed due to the club not relying on financial relief from outgoings this summer.
However, the very little that has been shown by Wilks during his time at the club shows that Sheffield Wednesday are better off offloading the winger sooner rather than later, and for the player’s sake above all else.
His stint in S6 has clearly not worked out, and Danny Rohl’s arrival in Hillsborough didn’t bolster his chances of getting game time either.
Whilst injuries out of his control have significantly impacted any chance he had of making an impact, such a spell on the sidelines would only hinder the likeliness of him making an impact at Championship level, something that the Owls must accept and move him on for the benefit of all parties involved.
