Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer business has gone quiet after a chaotic month.
The Owls have now snapped up nine players in the opening five weeks of the transfer window, but are still waiting on a tenth arrival.
It’s unclear which position Sheffield Wednesday will bolster next, but fans will be hoping it is the highly anticipated return of Ike Ugbo.
The striker returned to Troyes at the end of the season after netting seven goals whilst on loan in Yorkshire.
Wednesday are one of a number of clubs trying to sign Ugbo, with reports claiming the Canadian favours a move back to Hillsborough.
Ugbo could set the club back a lot of money this summer, but it appears Danny Rohl is still eager to push on to re-sign the 25-year-old.
Sheffield Wednesday continue to ‘try’ to re-sign Ugbo
The German coach has now issued an update on their pursuit of Ugbo, telling BBC Radio Sheffield: “The latest is that he’s not here at the moment.
“But we’ll look at what we can do. He’s a crucial player, we know this, but at the moment we have to try. We have to look, and we need different options.”
Ugbo’s arrival in January made a huge difference to the trajectory of the campaign, with Wednesday winning nine of the 17 games he started in.
His goals also bagged them nine points alone, which without them, could have quite easily plummeted them down to League One.
Why the Owls need to pay the price for their No.9
The striker proved himself as being a real threat in front of goal, already has a great relationship with Rohl and is well-loved by the fans.
While he may cost them a few million, this is the kind of money the Owls will need to pay if they want to sign a forward capable of pushing them up the table.
They were always going to have to pay seven-figures for a proven goal-scorer, but paying that money on a No.9 they already know they can rely on seems like the most sensible move.
If they can bump up their bid and agree on a fee with Troyes, then it seems fairly straight forward from that point on.
Ugbo is eager to return to Hillsborough and getting a deal done sooner rather than later would benefit all parties massively.
